Is Patience an Emotion?
A perfectly baked cake gone bad made me think of the Winning Thought – Patience
One skill I picked up this lockdown is Baking. It has motivated me to break mental blocks, experiment and become more confident. Few days back I made a second attempt at baking the Plum Almond cake – my favourite discovery of the lockdown.
This time I had the perfect baking mould, I was more comfortable while following the recipe, the cake was soft, flavourful and smelt so good! I was excited and happy to see my baking skills improve. Like a child I was waiting for the cake to cool down, couldn’t wait to dig in the cake.. it made for a happy dance and sweet dish post dinner.
However, the next day all my excitement turned into a huge disappointment. My freshly baked cake had fungus – within hours of been out of the oven. I couldn’t understand what went wrong. A quick chat with my baking buddy / guide revealed some moisture may have been left in the tin I packed the cake in.. Or was it I did not wait long enough for the cake to completely cool down?
My learning from this incident was ‘Have Patience’ – if only I was patient enough to allow the complete process takes its time. Admire my baking success for some more time and then relish is the next day. Half my cake would not have gone to the dustbin…
Patience is often referred to staying calm in difficult situation, or an ability to not react instantly when provoked or in an unpleasant conversation. Last year years I have experienced this aspect too – learning to be patient and not react to unpleasant situation or people.
But not getting over excited or enthusiastic about some happy developments also requires patience. Sometimes these good moments or updates also need to be dealt with calmness. It may go against someone’s very nature of sharing their happiness or new developments with family & friends. Or in today’s digital era sharing them instantly on social media platforms.
These Winning Thoughts often make me reflect on my inner self and help identify some patterns or areas of improvement. How do you understand your thoughts?
